The Root Cellar is on snowmobile trail #13 and is centrally located to many of the 2000 miles of trails in this area. With the average snow depth of 17 feet, this is the area to be! Our Lake Gogebic groomers are out daily making the trails the best they can be. Before you hit the trails, stop in the restaurant for your trail map.
If you want to snowmobile and the rest of the family would like to ski, there are 4 ski resorts within an hour of the Root Cellar in the Ironwood area. These ski resorts also offer snowboarding for those a little more brave. There are cross country ski trails as well as snowshoeing trails in Ironwood and in the Porcupine Mountains State Park.
If ice fishing is your thing, then this is the Lake for you. Jumbo Perch is a favorite by many. Many of the locals say that March is the best month for catching these Jumbo Perch.
Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park (called “the Porkies” by all the locals) is some of nature’s most untamed forest with all sorts of wildlife.
This jewel is 60,000 acres of some of nature’s most untamed forest with all sorts of wildlife. Don’t forget to check out Lake Of The Clouds while in this area and yes, it is accessible in the winter.
